Free roof inspection photo checklist
A complete roof inspection file is only as good as its photos. Use this checklist on every roof, whether you are the roofer, the public adjuster, or the independent adjuster, so nothing gets missed before the claim moves forward.
Before you climb
- Wide shot of the full home from the street, with the address visible if possible
- All four elevations, taken straight on
- Gutters, downspouts, and fascia from the ground
- Any visible storm damage at ground level: fences, siding, window screens, debris
On the roof
- Every slope, from a wide shot and a close shot
- Test squares on each slope, with a marker or chalk for scale
- Shingle close-ups showing granule loss, cracks, lifting, or missing tabs
- Ridge caps and hip lines
- Valleys and step flashing
- Pipe boots, vents, and exhaust caps
- Skylights and their flashing
- Chimney and its flashing
- Drip edge and the roof edge
Inside and after
- Attic photos at the roof deck, if access is available, showing any staining or daylight
- Interior ceilings and walls under any suspected leak
- Your notes on the roof’s pitch, height, and any safety limits you ran into
